What it does
Production, in detail.
A task board and XML tooling for the people you already work with, whether in-house staff or the vendors you hire. DiscoverJ provides the software, not the labour.
- 01
A task board that fits production
Copyedit, typeset, proof and QA tasks with assignments, workload views and turnaround targets, so nothing waits unseen.
- 02
Your people and your vendors
Invite freelancers and vendors as scoped users. They see only the jobs assigned to them, never the rest of your journal.
- 03
JATS XML tooling
Take in XML from your typesetter, validate it against your profile and keep it as the single source for every output format.
- 04
Every galley from one source
Generate PDF, HTML, XML and ePub from the same record, with reusable styles per journal and QA checklists before release.
- 05
Proofing and corrections
Send proofs to authors, collect corrections and record approvals in one place, with the history kept alongside the article.
- 06
Issues and page counts
Assemble issues, order sections and publish continuously. The final page count is recorded per article for your own accounting.
How it works
Four steps, no hand-offs lost.
- 1
Create a job
From an accepted submission, an upload, the API or an email, with files and metadata attached.
- 2
Assign
Route tasks to your own staff or invited vendors, with deadlines and checklists.
- 3
Produce and proof
Edit, typeset and proof, with author corrections tracked as they arrive.
- 4
Deliver
Release finished galleys by download, webhook or delivery to FTP or S3.
Standalone by design
Works on its own. Better together.
Production needs nothing else to be useful. It has its own way in and its own way out, and in the full suite the hand-offs are automatic.
Comes in from
- Accepted manuscripts from DiscoverJ review
- Jobs created by upload, API or email-in
Goes out to
- PDF, JATS XML, HTML and ePub deliverables
- Download, webhook or delivery to FTP and S3
- The final page count for each article
Questions
About production.
Does DiscoverJ do the typesetting or copyediting?
No. Production is software only. Your own staff, or vendors you hire and invite, do the work inside it. DiscoverJ provides no production labour.
Can I use production without the other modules?
Yes. A production job can be created by upload, API or email, with no submission or review in DiscoverJ, and deliverables leave by download, webhook or FTP and S3.
Can my vendors see other journals' work?
No. External users are scoped to the jobs assigned to them, so a typesetter sees only their own queue.
